To Catch a Fox Empty To Catch a Fox

Post  WolvenRemorse Fri May 27, 2011 4:40 pm

The door opened slowly, in walked a short man, holding his head. Despite his slumped walking, a smile creased his lips. Heavy boots caused the floor boards to creak loudly, and he managed to cross the large area to a stool. Plopping down heavily, he sat up, looking up to meet the Bartender's gaze with a faded green eye, " G'Evening, Mack. " He muttered softly, before grabbing a napkin off the bar, dabbing at his swollen lip. Now that light touched his face, one would notice a busted lip, a swollen cheek, and a black eye, " Scotch, with Ice in a separate glass. "

The Bartender shook his head, grabbing two glasses, a bottle of scotch, and placing it down in front of him on the bar, " Aw man, Todd, you need to stop this. You're seriously going to end up dead in the Alley out back if you don't. " He spoke softly, so that only Todd could hear his words. He grabbed some ice from the freezer, plopping them in the second glass.

Chuckling to himself, he took two ice cubs from the full glass, and plopped them in the empty glass. Then he opened the Scotch, and poured it for himself. Sipping at it, he set it back down, before reaching in to the glass of ice, taking one cube, gently pressing it to his split lip with a small wince, " Yeah, maybe you're right... or maybe you shouldn't worry about me, old man. " A Faded green eye swirled a glimpse around the empty Tavern, " Slow day, I guess. I was looking forward to making some new friends. Preferably friends with benefits. " He chuckled to himself, before sipping his scotch again.

To Catch a Fox Empty The odd couple

Post  Susano Mon May 30, 2011 12:05 pm

The tavern door swung open rather harshly. In marched a furious looking dark skinned elf. She wore black goggles with tinted yellow lenses so no one could see the fire burning in her eyes. "I Can't believe this!!" the elf shouted, She stood only about 5 feet in height and couldn't have been more than 100 lbs without the trench coat. Her violet hair was tied up in pigtails that bounced as she marched across the wooden floor to the bar. "I need something strong! Please.." She barked as she hopped up on one of the bar stools.

"Please calm yourself Mara.." came the soft voice of an odd creature as shi walked across the floor, the wooden floor boards creaking loudly under hir weight. Standing at just under 6 feet, but hir body was long without adding hir tail. At first glance one would think hir to be a red panda taur with the colors of her pelt, but those whom looked closer saw the more feline aspects. Hir strawberry blonde hair fell over shoulder and framed hir feline face perfectly. Shi wore a tan leather vest that held hir form with matching gloves and boots on hir hands and paws. Hir blue eyes search around the tavern as shi made hir way over to the bar. Placing hirself between the little elf in goggles and another that was already sitting at the bar. The cat taur didn't sit on a stool, instead she gently moved one over and sat in the space between the stools. "It's okay Mara, we'll manage somehow. Just be glad he didn't gamble our lives away." Shi spoke in a warm voice trying hir best to calm the furious little elf girl.

"He might as well have! I mean he threw our home away! now what do we do Red?" She said while removing her goggles from her eyes and placing them on her head. With the goggle out of the way one could see dark blue spots dotted her forehead and cheeks. Her almost glowing red violet eyes were full of fire and fear.

The cat taur placed a hand on the little elf's back, "We'll think of something." shi said before turning to the bartender. "Can you spare a room for the night? and some food?" Shi asked as shi pulled a pouch out of hir vest.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  WolvenRemorse Mon May 30, 2011 3:13 pm

The Bartender, a round looking man, glanced up at the loud voice with a down turned mouth, he reached under the bar for his gun. However, he saw that it was only a woman with a big mouth. Slowly his hand shifted off the gun, sliding to a box beside it, grabbing a cigar from the box, he pulled it to his lips, lighting it before pulling it to the corner of his mouth to speak, " G'Evening, folks. " He muttered sloppily between the cigar tainted lips. He watched the Loud one jump up on a stool, barking at him about needing a drink. He didn't hesitate, going for a glass in the cabinet under the bar, plopping it in front of her, before grabbing a bottle of Whiskey from the shelf behind him. Pouring quickly, he popped the top back on, and put it back on the shelf, " There ya go. "

When the Taur sat at the bar, he didn't even hide a tipped brow look, " Now W'at in the hell... " He didn't mean to be rude, but this was the first creature he'd seen that actually startled him, " Look, We won't be giving things for free 'round here, got me? " He glared a bit, blue eyes sharply stabbing back.

At that moment, Todd's eye shot to the two others, a grin forming mischievously, but quickly falling back to a concerned frown, " Mack, ease up, can't you see they are new here? " Ignoring Mack, who murmered 'Yeah, everyone's new here', he swiveled his chair to face the two.

" G'Evening, Ladies, Sounds like you are in a bit of a pickle. By the looks of things, Either you were illegally stowing away on a ship, and got left here, or you got here legally, and things didn't go as planned. " He gave a small, comforting smile, the wolf in sheep's clothing played the concerned act well, " Mack here won't give you anything for free, he's been burned too many times in the past. But, I think I can remedy your problems... " He reached down on his belt, pulling a pouch of gold. He set it on the counter, pushing it towards Mack, " Here, this will cover their drinks, food, and rooms. " A Faded green eye fell back on the two, before he smiled again, " Ladies, please feel free to ignore me, but I could help you out, no matter how you got here. " His green eye twinkled a bit, his other eye sewn shut, " I know how you could get some money, and maybe even your own way out of here. But you might have to lower your... standards. " He sipped his scotch, the grin forming once more, waiting for a response.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  Susano Mon May 30, 2011 4:15 pm

The cat taur placed the ouch shi took out of hir vest on the counter. Obviously shi wasn't shocked by the Bartender's reaction, shi simply smiled forgetting shi had sharp canines which probably would just scare those not used to it. When the stranger addressed them shi turned to him, "Thank you, but we can cover it. This isn't the first time we've docked here. Just our first time off the ship at this port." Shi slid his pouch back to him with a thankful grin.

Amarah glared at the one-eyed horned male before she grabbed the glass of whiskey in front of her. Tipping the glass to her lips she took a long drink before setting in down. Noticing the Bartender's reaction to her friend she chimed in "Never seen a Chakat before 'Mack'?" Her tone almost mocking the kind stranger next to them, "Don't worry Shi don't bite. Unless you want hir too!" She laughed, clearly the drink was already having a bit of an effect on the little grayish elf.

"Mara!" The red cat taur scolded before turning to the Bartender and bowing hir head. "Please excuse my friend, It's been a hard day on both of us." Shi turned back to the horned elf, "We arn't illegal, the captain of our ship lost it in a gamble in this city. Leaving us homeless and stranded." Shi sighed as she opened hir pouch and took out a few gold pieces.

"Standards! Pfffft!!! What standards?! .....hic! Hear that Red, He thinks we have standards!" The spotted elf girl was spinning on her stool, somewhere in the conversation she had chugged the rest of her drink. The new drink was having quite an effect.

Trying to ignore hir elf's out bursts the cat taur looked at the stranger, "How can you help, and how low do I have to set standards?" The serious look in her bright blue eyes said they were willing for almost anything.

((Oh! I added something at the bottom of their profiles of what I imagine Amarah and Ember sounding like Very Happy ))

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  WolvenRemorse Mon May 30, 2011 4:37 pm

Mack just rolled his eyes, " Light weight. " Taking the gold off the counter, he jammed it in his pocket, and started walking for the back, " We got two orders of Mama's Shepherd Pie! " He shouted loudly while stacking new clean glasses under the counter.

Todd stopped him before he walked off, " Mack, make it three. " He smiled sweetly, almost too sweet.

Mack rolled his eyes, before moving to the back door, and disappearing. In the back, one could clearly hear him shout, " Better make it Three. "

Turning back to the two, he now gave them his complete and undivided attention, " Oh? A Gambling man you say? Lost his SHIP you say? Oh, what sweet words to my ears. " He muttered under his breath before sipping his scotch again, " That is a shame to hear, sounds like you're down on your luck. " He grabbed his pouch of coins, taking out two and setting them on the counter for Mack. Putting the pouch away, he reached over the bar, grabbing the bottle of scotch he'd been poured from before. Filling his glass again, he listened to the two ramble between each other.

Hearing the Chakat redirect her words at him, he smiled, a twinkle in his eye again, " You see, I've got a job that needs fixing, but I can't do it on my own. There's a pest problem here in Libero City, it's probably the only thing keeping this place from hitting the maps in the Main land. " He started to dig through his pockets, until he pulled out something that looked like a jar, except it was black glass that one wouldn't be able to see through. " This here is a containment jar, I had a friend whip it up for me. You can't break it ... " He tapped it against the edge of the counter top, instead of it making the dangerous ting ting sound a normal jar would, it made a thud thud noise. " And it can't ever get hot, no matter what it's been sitting on, in, or... contains. " His smile faded, to a grim frown, " Listen here, I'm about to show you something that not even I can explain. " He unscrewed the cap, and a soft hissing sound escaped, as if the inside had been sealed up. Suddenly, from the jar came a bright red light, this light grew brighter as the lid was removed. He held it away from himself, to tip it to show the ladies. Inside, a creature emerged, flapping it's wings rapidly, it took off in to the air. This creature could only be explained as Moth, except it was larger then a full grown man's hand. It released an unearthly glow from its body, like it was actually a flame, it's little body glowed an intense red, like embers, and the wings were like flames themselves. It flew quickly around the room, immediately going toward any light it could find, which was candles on tables right now.

The strangest thing, it went directly for the fire, and landed on the candle stick. It's body erupted in to a ball of fire, before calming, and flying to the next table. It stole the fire from each candle until nothing was left, now it went toward the ceiling, going for the light bulbs. Landing on each one, it extinguished them, within two minutes the room was almost pitch black except for two bulbs. Todd quickly got up, chasing the moth down, before swatting it in to the jar with a gloved hand. Removing the glove, he winced at the burn he'd received, " As you can see, Ladies, this is no normal Moth. "

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  Susano Mon May 30, 2011 7:18 pm

As the bartender went to the back Emberstorm put most of her attention on the stranger, some of it went to keeping the drunken elf out of trouble.
Elves were not good with alcohol, especially one as young and as fresh out of the forests as Amarah. Her cheeks darkened in a blush and her eyes clouded over. The chakat wrapped her tail around the elf's waist so she didn't wander off or get into trouble. Shi watched rather interested as the one-eyed stranger pulled out the black jar. As he unscrewed the jar and showed hir the fire moth, shi was impressed with the display. Mara was more than impressed as she was stumbly trying to catch the "pretty light" not able to go to far as the tail around her waist held tight.

"It's very interesting creature indeed. Why do you say it's a pest? aside from the obvious theft of light." The chakat inquired. Shi had no problem seeing in the dim lighting with hir feline eyes. Shi smirked lightly as the stranger chased the fluttering fire.

Mara danced around the chakat until she fell on her friend's back wrapping her arms around the waist of hir upper torso. This didnt seem to bother the chakat as she stood on all four legs, lifting the elf girl as if she were laying on the back of a horse with her arms around it's neck.

"Don't mind her, she's not used to human liquors. She wont remember anything by morning." Shi rolled hir eyes at the silly elf and turned back to the stranger and his pet. "What exactly do you want us to do?" Shi asked eying the black jar in his hands.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  WolvenRemorse Tue May 31, 2011 1:15 am

((I wrote out my whole response, and accidently clicked out of the box before posting it. *bangs head on desk*))

Todd tucked away the jar in to his pocket, sitting back down to finish off his scotch. He left only a sip in the very bottom of the glass, his ice cubes pretty much melting away. " These creatures, are pests, because like you said, they eat all manners of Light. I'm a Biomancer, I came here to Libero to study all the new creatures and plant life. Unfortunately, I've never come across anything like this, and I can see how they could quickly become a problem. I asked the locals, who've been here longer then myself, and they have affectionately named them "Lantern Eaters", or "Ignis Moths". At first this wasn't a problem, I followed them with mild curiosity, until I received a letter. " He pulled a letter from his pocket, setting it on the bar, " Feel free to read it, but pretty much it comes from an unknown source. They have told me that these Moths are a real problem here, for the fact they could ruin businesses by ridding them of light, leaving them exposed to Thieves. At night, supposedly they gobble up all the Lanterns that light the Bricks, leaving them vulnerable to Predators. "

He tapped his chin lightly, " They have requested I rid the Town of Lantern Eaters, and went so much as to tuck in some gold. A hundred pieces to be exact. They said A hundred to start, a hundred to stop them from taking their lights, and two hundred to find their weakness. A man in my position, wants to see what will be best for both sides of the coin. " He finished his scotch, and smiled over at the ladies, " So what will it be? Think you'd be interested in joining me, helping me with these Lantern Eaters. I'll split the payment, 50/50 with you. Of course, your 50 will be split between yourself, and your-- " He looked at the drunken woman with a nervous smile, " --companion. " Listening to Emberstorm, he nodded, " If she won't remember this, maybe it's best I take my leave. Sleep on it, you can find me at my Estate, it's south from here, called the Foxglove Estate, otherwise, I'll return here tomorrow at some time for your answer. " He stood up, pushing the gold he left for Mack toward the edge, " I bid you both a good night, and I will see you tomorrow. " Smiling sweetly, he moved for the door, before he was gone.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  Susano Wed Jun 01, 2011 3:25 pm

The red chakat nodded at the stranger as he left, they would most likely meet here again tomorrow. After all how would they find the estate? Shi might be a navigator but shi needed to know the area before shi could navigate it.

Emberstorm tapped a finger on the bar, shi wasn't too sure about the stranger's offer. Although shi was quite sure Amarah would like to help, or at least see if these fire bugs could be of any use to her metal working. The red chakat had much to ponder, in a single day shi had been kicked out of hir home, stranded, and offered a job to catch something shi had no clue how to handle. giving a heavy sigh shi figured they should get some sleep. Mara was obviously too gone to eat so they'd eat in the morning. Shi turned as far as hir spine would allow to grab the sleeping elf, carefully picking hir up bridle style and she called for the bartender. "Sir, which room is ours? I think we'll just turn in for the night. You can keep the gold from the food." Shi tried to sound friendly although shi was obviously tired.

The bartender, now known as Mack, walked out from the back, holding three bowls of 'Mama's Shepherd Pie', seeing Todd gone, and the two women looking worn out, he frowned, dumping all three bowls in to the trash, giving a pissed off look, " Yeah, sure, whatever. " He went to the far end of the bar, away from them, to a board on the wall. Grabbing two keys off it, he walked back, tossing them in front of the Chakat, " Rooms five, and six. " He started to clear their glasses off the counter, pocketing the gold. He pushed the cigar to the corner of his mouth, before barking, " Sleep tight, hope the Lantern Eaters don't ignite. " Now he laughed to himself, cleaning the bar, and preparing to shut the Tavern up for the night.

Emberstorm rolled hir eyes at Mack's display. Shi just smiled and nodded a good night to him as shi grabbed the key to room 6. They only needed one room as Mara had a habit of laying on Emberstorm anyway. Shi carefully maneuvered around stools and chairs. 'This place really needs a friendlier bartender..' Shi thought as she carried the sleeping elf up the stairs.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  DevilsChef Thu Jun 02, 2011 9:21 pm

The next morning a brown eyed gnome awoke in his bedroom above his shop. He had been up all the night before working on the mechanics of this new gadget he recently acquired and yet he couldn't figure it out. Before falling asleep on the damned thing, he set it aside and decided to get some rest and to attempt it in the morning with a fresh mind. He crawled sleepily out of his old and visibly work bed and to his washroom. He cleaned himself up and got dressed. While looking in his mirror he gave himself a pep talk to calm his mind and hopefully give him the confident boost he needed to work on his new gizmo. He walked down the creaky steps to his lab in the back of the store on the first floor. On the last step he tripped and landed on his face. Luckily he braced himself with his arms so the fall was not so bad.

"Con flabit! I must remember to fix that creaky step that's the 8th time I've fallen on my face due to it." he yelled at himself. It was still way to early to open so he knew no one heard him yell. He picked himself back up and continued to his lab. When he got there he noticed a problem. All of the gadget's inside gears where strewn about the table. He rolled his eyes and looked around. "Lyron." He said with a frustrated tone.

Out of the wall on the floor came a beige and white speckled rat. In it's teeth it held a golden gear. It's pristine glow reflecting the barely noticable morning light into Xan's eyes. Xan chuckled slightly as he knelt down and the rat crawled up his arm to his shoulder. When Xan's hand came up to the rat, the golden gear fell into his hand and the rat gave a slight lick to the gnome's ear. Smiling sweetly he set the rat on the table and said to him. "How many time's must I tell you. Items on my table are of great importance and you are not to touch them. I buy you all sorts of shining objects for your home. You need not touch mine." The rat seemed to look away saddened by the lecture it was receiving. Xan looked down and took pity on the beautiful rat. Lyron sat on his haunches and went to clean himself while under Xan's smiling face. Xan knew he could hold no grudge against such a beautiful creature.

Whispering he leaned next to the rat's head. "Are you hungry?" The ears on the rat perked up so fast it looked almost as if he jumped for joy. He scurried over and put both paws on Xan's face and kissed his cheek. As he did he stopped and then pawed repeatedly in the same spot. Xan stood up and went to a silver bowl on the edge of the table and picking the bowl up he asked. "What's wrong Lyron?" As he peered at his image he noticed a scratch and a fairly large bruise on the side of his cheek where he had fallen. "Well I can't rightly go out to eat looking as I do now." he said motioning with his fingers he chanted a few words and he disappeared from view. The rats eyes blinked and out of the air a voice came. "Come on Lyron, hop in!" The rat took a leap of faith off the table and from an onlooker would have disappeared from sight as he fell into a satchel Xan made especially for his furry companion.

Xan headed for the door and opened it and locked up leaving the closed sign still in the window. He then proceeded down the street towards the tavern.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  WolvenRemorse Thu Jun 02, 2011 10:25 pm

The door swung open, and in stumbled a drunken Todd. Whistling sloppily to himself, he fell in to a table, getting stuck in a chair, " Wooo! " Trying to stand himself up, he steadied himself on the chair he'd just fell over, " Easy there... cowboy... Heh... Cowboy... " Giggling to himself, he almost ran for the bar, hopping on to a stool with a thud, " MACK! Bring me... me... memememe, I'm singing! " Laughing, he looked down to tap his breast pocket which was moving by itself, " Shh... Mack! " He looked up, slamming his fist on the bar, " Bring me the gut rott, I'm feeling lucky! " But he didn't stick around for it, he firmly collapsed on to the counter, snoring softly.

From the breast pocket, a small furry white, and gray head popped out. Squeaking a bit, the fancy rat squirmedto free herself. Once she was out, she crawled up his clothing on to the bar, flicking his face, hair, ears, and horns to wake him up. When there was no reaction, she sighed, sitting defeatedly beside him. She knew he'd wake up eventually, but right now he had to sleep off the night of drinking, gambling, and whoring. She pouted, laying beside his head protectively.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  DevilsChef Thu Jun 02, 2011 11:25 pm

Living about a twenty minute walk from the bar Xan had to leave fairly early to get there to have breakfast and then get back to open his store. He had a pickup coming in for his staff 45 minutes after the store was supposed to open. He entered the bar slowly. Watching for any drunkerds left over from the night before. He saw his typical spot in the corner of the bar was open and hastily made his way to the stool. It was the only stool who's cushion was fully in tack.

Not realizing his invisibility spell was still active he continued on his merry way. Luckily the tavern was not so crowded this early in the morning. "Hey Mack! You back there?" Xan shouted leaning on the stool. He heard a faint rumbling and knew it was the bartender. "Can I have the usual?! Two eggs easy over and a slice of your finest toast?! This time don't forget my cow's juice!" After placing his order he slumped onto his hand n supported himself on his elbow. He sat and waited patiently hoping it wouldn't take too long.

Out of his satchel Lyron popped his head but he stayed more or less in the satchel for it's relative warmth. To an onlooker it would appear to be a floating half a rat, but unbeknownst to Xan was the hilarity that his rat was performing as he sat and pet the head of his companion.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  Susano Fri Jun 03, 2011 2:45 am

As the room began to lighten from the morning sun Ember slowly woke. Shi opened hir eyes and found Mara had managed to turn hir into a giant plushie. The spotted elf's arms were wrapped around hir upper torso as she used Ember's breasts for a pillow. Ember had hir fore paws wrapped around the elf's waist and hir body half twisted. It was a good thing Chakats were flexible or the position might be painful. The rooms offered at the inns were a bit small for one of hir build. Emberstorm had to laugh to hirself as shi found the situation to be cute. Shi slowly wiggled hir way out of the elf's grasp without waking her. As shi stood shi yawned and stretched much like a cat does, hir tail was the only thing that didn't stretch out. Mara moaned slightly and started to wake herself as her pillow and warmth was now gone since Ember wasn't in bed. Emberstorm was already going through her morning rituals, having done everything except shower, being as shi didn't fit in the shower. As Ember slipped hir hind-paw boots and hand-paw gloves over hir lower legs then gloves over hir hands, Mara got herself up and to the bathroom for a shower. This was a normal morning ritual for the two, and it seemed hard to break old habits.

"They really need to get at least warm water! That was freezing!" Mara complained as she came out of the bathroom soaked and shivering. Emberstorm couldn't help but laugh as shi helped the spotted girl dry off.

"We'll look for another place to stay tonight, the bartender isn't very friendly.." Ember said as she buttoned hir vest and tucked hir coin pouch in the cleavage of hir breasts, far enough down that it wasn't noticeable. Mara was a bit quicker as she dressed in her normal attire which had become her only out fit over night. A pair of tight black shorts held up by yellow suspenders, a fitted black T-shirt that was cut short so her stomach showed. black and yellow gloves and boots, a pair of black goggles with tinted gold lenses, and a black trench coat to go over everything. Before Mara put her goggles on, Emberstorm pulled up her hair into pigtails.

"I don't care where we stay as long as it has hot water!" Mara noted as the pair left the room. She was still pretty mad and like Emberstorm predicted, Mara didn't remember a thing after entering the bar last night. She was informed however as Emberstorm had explained everything through out their morning ritual. The floor boards creaked as Emberstorm walked down the hall. Shi tried hir best to even hir weight so not to fall through as the floor threatened hir. Mara walked a pass slower than her quadrupedal friend, but she stayed close enough to lay a hand on the chakat's back if she wanted. The two came down the stairs and over to the bar, where both noticed Todd passed out. "This is the guy?" Mara said unimpressed as she hopped up on a stool two down from the sleeping satyr man.

"You weren't much better last night Princess." Ember commented with a snicker as shi placed hirself between bar stools and Mara and Todd. Neither of the two noticed the floating rat at the end of the bar, nor the one next to Todd's head. Instead Emberstorm politely called for Mack.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  WolvenRemorse Fri Jun 03, 2011 12:47 pm

Mack heard people coming in, and he hurriedly tied his apron on. He grabbed the needed things such as Milk, Orange Juice, and a pitcher of water. Opening the back door slowly with his boot, he walked out in his usual uniform. A small towel firmly placed over one shoulder, he walked up to the bar setting down the pitchers, before he moved to grab four glasses.

Setting them each up with a glass, one set in Xan's usual spot, figuring he was in the bathroom or something. He went back to grab the Milk pitcher to pour him a glass first, since Xan is a local. Spotting half a Lyron, he laughed to himself, " Good morning, Xan... Up late working on an experiment, I assume? " Chuckling, he turned away for a moment, calling to the back room, " We need one of Xan's usual! " In the back, the clear sound of a bell tap was heard. He reached under the bar, going in a jar for a cookie, he set the cookie on the bar, " ... And for you, Lyron, good morning. "

Moving to Todd, he shook his head, " Eh... Todd... you really need to quit this life style. " Hearing no response from Todd, he turned around, muttering, " Like hell you're gonna get gut rott, you stupid drunk. " Grabbing the pitcher of orange juice, he poured him a glass, " Good morning, Todd. " Seeing Ophelia laying beside him looking sad, he made a frown, " I'm sorry Ophelia, you know how he is... " He reached under the bar, grabbing another cookie, setting it in front of her, " Don't worry about him, he'll be fine. "

Moving to the two ladies, he shook his head, " Morning, Ladies. What will it be? " He pointed to the three pitchers, questioningly.

Mara gave Mack a cute smile before pointing at the milk, "Just a glass of that sir, and anything good for breakfast!" The spotted elf was well aware she might have made a horrible impression last night but that didn't stop her seemingly cheery disposition.

"I'll have the same, please." Ember tried hir best to stay as friendly as possible, shi wasn't surprised by the assumptions that shi was female. Figuring it would take a lover to know the truth, and these people might not know how to react to a Hermaphrodite. So shi quietly accepted that shi would be considered female to them. Emberstorm gently placed a hand on Todd's shoulder, "Will he be okay?... oh! Hello there little one." Shi directed at the small rat next to Todd's head.

"Awe!! how cute!" Mara chimed in as she too noticed the furry creature. No one but Ember would guess the little engineering elf was already figuring out how to make a mechanical pet like the rat.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Mack blinked a little, the spotted elf was so... cheerful, and polite to top it all off. He smiled in return, pulling the smouldering cigar from his mouth before putting it out in an ash tray, " Of course, Miss. " He spoke softly to her, grabbing the pitcher of Milk, pouring it in to her glass gently, " Hope you slept well, afraid you'd look a lot like Todd today. " Laughing, he looked at the sleeping male, he poured a glass for Emberstorm, nodding all the while, " Aye, He'll be peachy. He's just had a rough time here in Libero, I imagine. He's in here every night before closing, and every morning right as I open, beat up. "

Todd didn't move, he just snored softly, face down on the counter, his arms forming a pillow.

From behind Todd, walked out Ophelia, her little defeated look being only uplifted by the fact she was carrying that cookie in her mouth. Looking at Emberstorm, she chirped a small squeak in hello, she knew the two Ladies from the day before, watching from Todd's pocket carefully. Sitting, she pulled a piece of cookie off, resting it on the counter in front of Todd's face, hoping he'd get up. She pulled off another piece, and set it in front of Emberstorm. Looking up with sad eyes, she hoped that she would take the peace offering, and not harm Todd in his vulnerable state.

Mack scratched his head, " I think Ophelia is afraid, she's with Todd all the time, so she probably sees all the people injuring him. Poor little thing. " He looked at Todd, smacking him in the head lightly with the towel, " If only he'd wise up. Aw well. With age, I guess he will. If you ladies need anything, just holler, I'll be back here finishing up breakfast. I'm sure you can wake him, or just wait. " He turned away, going in the back to order the rest of the food.

Lyron let out a cheerful squeek as the cookie was placed in front of him and he climbed out from his satchel. Moving toward the cookie. He grabbed it up in his hands and began to cheerfully eat his treat.

Xan a little confused at the bartender's comment thought for a minute. Sudeenly he remembered and said "Ahhh." chuckling to himself he snapped his fingers and the spell was canceled. "Thanks Mack I totally forgot. And to answer your question yes I am. A customer broughtin a rather strange device and asked me to put it together for them and I've been meddling with it all night and for some reason just can't get it to work correctly for me." Xan's sad expression quickly faded as his glass was filled and he heard his order put in. Looking down the bar he saw Todd in his usual morning position and two newcomers. He smiled gently to them and waved then went back and had another sip of his milk. He looked down at Lyron who was happily eating his treat. "I see your well taken care of." He smiled and went back to his drink.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  SlightlyDim Mon Jun 06, 2011 12:02 am

"Libero..." The Valkyrie breathed, as she began to look about the city. It was beginning to bustle with activity as venders and shopkeepers prepared their wares for the day. Though people were giving her odd glances, Sigmund did not feel the least bit awkward just standing in the middle of the street gaping at the buildings and sites like the foreigner that she was. She shivered slightly which made her feathery wings flutter softly in response. This feeling, it was the same feeling that she usually received in battle. Excitement, determination, all bubbling inside making the clock device controlling her heart 'tick' rapidly. No she had to calm herself, just breath Sigmund ol' girl, but it was difficult to do so. This town was just so different, he just had to be here somewhere. "Nole." she whispered, "By Odin, I will find you." and with those words she had to start her search at where all adventures start... the tavern.

Sigmund entered the tavern/bar ducking slightly under the door frame because of her extreme height and her top hat. She looked about not really focusing on anyone in particular walking past the snoring form of Todd, and ignoring all others in the room except for the barkeep Mack. She approached him giving the most welcoming smile she could muster before speaking.

"Good morning good-sir, my name is Sigmund Valhazent." as she said this she removed her top hat and did a flourishing type of bow. When she did so a small spiky looking lump tumbled from the top of her scalp and landed with a small 'thud' into the waiting hole of her top hat, but she did not acknowledge the sound or the added weight of a creature toppling in. After straightening back to her full height, Sigmund replaced the hat upon her head swiftly, and the 'lump' could have only been replaced on her head as well. "I am sure that all sorts of people visit this fine establishment, and you appear to be a knowledgeable fellow. Would you be so kind as to tell me if a man, long brown hair, human, wears goggles on his head, and goes by the name of Nole... ah he also goes by the name of The Artificer has been or is here?" She smiled softly waiting for a response, but someone caught her eye.

Emberstorm, she would stare boldly at her, Sigmund's eyes wide and mouth slightly agape. She had never seen such a creature before, actually... Sigmund was quite... challenged when it came to anything or anyone who looked like an animal. Because of her Valkyrie training, she was not well versed when it came those with fur or scales. Her brain rattled off as many animals that she could remember, which were very few since she only knew what a dog, horse, and cat was. Even so, she still constantly messed up the names and called her little hedgehog pet that lived under her top hat 'Dog' because that was what she thought it was.

'Now what was THIS creature? It is standing large... with four legs... and long hair on its head... IT MUST BE A HORSE!' she thought before, saying to Emberstorm in a breathy like surprised tone, "By the breath of Odin, I have never seen a horse quite like you before." Of course she did not mean to call Emberstorm a horse, but it was the most logical choice to her.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  WolvenRemorse Mon Jun 06, 2011 12:18 am

Mack just stopped in mid thought, paused, good thing he had put his cigar out, or it would have fell to the floor. He was lost for words, so he grabbed a glass, and set it in front of the new woman, " Uh.. Good morning, Miss, My name is Archie... I own this... establishment. " He scratched at his head, " Never heard that name before, however so many folks come in and out of Libero that I may have seen them and didn't know it. If I hear anything, you'll be the first to hear. " He motioned to the pitchers, " Milk, Orange Juice, or Water? We have stronger stuff, but I don't recommend it this early in the morning. " He wiped the bar, trying to keep his mind going, he was honestly completely thrown off by the woman.

He turned away, hearing two distinct bell taps, meaning the orders were done. Going to the window, he grabbed the four plates, turning back to the bar, he set a plate in front of Emberstorm, Mara, Todd, and Xan. Everyone had the same, but Todd and Xan had an extra piece of toast for their Rat companions, " Enjoy. " As he walked by, he wacked Todd in the head with the towel, " Oops. "

On cue, Todd jumped awake, " WHAT?! " He jumped up, knocking his glass over. Ophelia ran down the bar from his flailing, and Mack grabbed the glass before it spilled. He looked around, dark circles under his eyes, a night of drinking wasn't a good idea. He tried to calm down, seeing the food, he started to eat quietly, setting the extra toast aside for a shaken Ophelia. She sat, eating it now, a lot less scared.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  WolvenRemorse Tue Jun 07, 2011 5:08 pm

Libero City's calm day slowly turned turbulent, a storm rolled in, thunder covered the land, soft at first. Rain followed, tapping on the wooden roof of the Tavern, oddly enough, it seemed to get louder as the new comer stepped on to the porch of the building. She removed her dripping black coat, hanging it up outside before pushing the double doors open. The first thing people would notice is the clattering of her hooves on the floor boards, then her size as she ducked under the doorway. Closing the doors behind her, she walked toward the bar, somewhere between Xan, and Todd. With a small smile, she greeted the Bartender, " Archie. Good morning, well, it was a good morning, until the storm. " She made a small face looking upward, almost in disgust of the storm, " My usual please. " She laid five gold pieces on the counter for him, before moving to stand beside Todd, " Oh, Virgil, you poor poor dear. "

Turning in horror, as he heard her, he tried to quickly finish his meal, but she almost manifested beside him too fast. Swallowing hard, he looked at her as she spoke, " Don't play cute with me, Hofo. " He glared, pushing his plate away, chugging his orange juice before wiping his mouth.

She smiled, something dark crossing her features, as she reached out, grabbing his face, she pulled him in with inhuman strength. Glancing over his injuries, she pushed on each of them with her thumb, " I see the Black eye, and Busted lip haven't stopped your darker activities. " Shoving him away from her, she looked over the patrons, " Let it be known, right now, this man, Virgil, is a lying, back stabbing, Thief. Whatever he tells you, is a lie. He will rob you blind before he feeds you to the wolves. Do not trust him, if you value your lives. "

Todd fell back in to his chair, grabbing the bar for support but failing. He fell off the stool, on to the floor with a loud clatter, he might fall on to someone's feet if they were close enough. Grabbing his face, he winced, the wounds he'd been babying were aggravated again. He reached under his clothing, grabbing for something, a dark look crossing his features now.

At that moment, Mack rushed around the bar, crouching beside Todd, he grabbed the hand reaching for something. Looking him in the eye, he frowned, " It's not worth it... Think about it. " Once he calmed him down, he stood up, taking the Captain's usual order, which was a large breakfast to go, and handed the box to her, " Your order, Captain. " He almost stuttered, he knew deep down Captain Hofo had enough power to shut him down if he looked at her the wrong way. He didn't want anymore trouble.

Laughing at Todd's subtle threat, she kicked some mud off her boots at him, " You're a cock roach. Crawling on the floor, under the feet of good people. You mind as well look the part, you dirty little insect. " Grabbing her box, she nodded to Mack, turning back to the door, and leaving in to the storm.

He laid there for a bit, wiping the mud off his clothes. Standing up slowly, he felt his heart beating in his ears, that woman was at his last nerves. She'd been having him tailed, and beaten for the last two weeks. He had made the mistake of letting one of his boys steal from one of her guards. Even though he went back groveling, giving back the money, with interest, she didn't see it was enough. He just listened to the silence, staring at the counter top unblinking, " Mack... something stronger, please. " He pulled out two gold pieces and laid them on the countertop.

Mack frowned, but nodded, moving back around the bar, getting him a bottle of scotch, and two glasses. One for ice, and one for his drink.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Mara reached for her glass of milk and smiled at the barkeep. "Thanks." She turned her head to Ember and grinned as the little rat offered the piece of cookie. "Don't worry, Ember may look like a cat, but shi's just a big softie." She winked then turned her back to the bar and rested her arms on it as she leaned back and sipped on her milk.

Emberstorm reached out to gently pet the rat offering a soft smile. "I wont hurt him, little one." Shi purred before looking at Mack. "Libero sounds like a tough place.." Shi picked up her own glass and drank it down.

Mara noticed the Gnome sitting at the end of the bar as he suddenly appeared. She shook her head and nudged Ember slightly, "Was he always there?" the spotted elf whispered confused. Ember just softly shrugged, shi hadn't noticed if he was or not. Shi was lost in hir thoughts wondering if Libero was as bad as it seemed.

Before anything else was said, the tavern door opened and both Mara and Ember turned to look out of curiosity. In walked a new strangely dressed woman in a top hat. Ember turned back to hir glass of milk as the woman seemed to ignore everyone. Mara leaned back against the bar as if she was a regular. Both tried minding their own business when the woman addressed the barkeep. although when Ember noticed shi was being stared at all shi could do was smile.

"By the breath of Odin, I have never seen a horse quite like you before."
The woman said to Ember and Mara busted out laughing. She couldn't help it, she laughed so hard she nearly fell off the stool. Ember only gave the laughing girl a small glare.
"Horse? HA! Hey Red, she thinks you're a horse!" Mara laughed. "No, no honey! Red isn't a horse, although sometimes shi's an epic mount!" The spotted girl went on. This was just too funny to her.

Emberstorm whapped the girl with hir tail as shi turned to face the new comer. Shi bowed as best shi could in the crowded area. "My name is Emberstorm, and I am not a horse Ma'am. I'm a Chakat. And this giggly girl is Amarah." Shi said and tried her best to give a friendly smile despite hir annoyance with Mara's laughing.

Ember jumped at the sudden waking of Todd, shi honestly didn't expect it. Mara was still attempting to control her laughter as Mack set the food in front of them. Ember turned hirself back to the bar and picked up the fork provided. Before shi had time to bring any food to hir mouth, they heard the door open again and the clatter of hooves. Mara silenced herself almost immediately making Ember curious so shi turned hir head. Again a strange looking woman, this time she looked more animal, which is what Ember was used to on hir home world. Mara was intrigued because the woman looked like she was created by the goddess of her home world.

The woman must have been powerful as Mack seemed scared, and Todd got nervous. Silently Ember watched as the woman and Todd conversed. Mara practically hid behind Ember, not because she was afraid, but because the way the deer woman held power over everyone. She was afraid of getting anyone in trouble.

Both Ember and Mara turned at the accusations against Todd. Mara was about to protest but Ember hushed the elf with her tail. When Todd was pushed, he fell at Ember's fore-handpaws, shi raised one hand-paw to support the fallen satyr's back. Mara glared daggers at the deer woman, if only looks could kill. Ember curled hir lips and growled as the deer woman left. Helping Todd to his stool after the woman's departure.

"Can you believe that woman!" Mara said sticking her tongue out at the door. "The nourve of some people! Hey Red we oughta Teach her what for!" The spotted elf was obviously ready to jump at the chance to beat that deer-girl. But as rude as the woman was, Ember Knew they couldn't do anything. This wasn't their planet, nor was it their place to judge who is right or wrong. Shi simply shook hir head at the elf.

"Are you alright?" Shi asked Todd as shi turned back to the bar. Libero was starting to look like a tough place after all.

Mack shook his head at Mara's words, cleaning a glass, trying to remain cool, but he was obviously shaken, " No, Miss, That's not a good idea. That was Captain Hofo, she is the new Leader for the Templars of Light. Their compound is about a mile away. She comes here every morning, gets breakfast for herself, and her fellow guards, then heads back. " He set the glass on the shelf with the rest of the cleaned ones, " It's best to stay away from the ToL, there is no authority here in Libero, but the ToL is as close as possible. " He pulled out a new cigar, lighting it, his nerves needed this right now.

Todd just grumbled, pouring himself a glass, adding two ice cubes, he sipped his drink slowly. He grabbed an extra piece of ice to hold to his sore lip and eye. He didn't want to look at anyone, he was embarrassed, but under everyone's chatter, he could hear Emberstorm, " ... Yeah... I'm alright... Thanks. " He winced at the ice being put to his lip, it hurt, but he had to suck it up, " You know, everything she said is true, right? " He didn't bother to look at her, he knew what she was looking at, he sipped his drink, a very defeated look crossed his face.

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  SlightlyDim Thu Jun 09, 2011 3:57 am

Sigmund watched as the woman burst into hysterics obviously confused by her actions, but she let a soft smile touch her lips. What was so funny about this? When Emberstorm spoke her eyes widened in fascination. This creature could speak as well?! Now that was surprise! She stared, unblinking for a few seconds, the sheltered lifestyle as a Valkyrie had not prepared her for such... well, such new things such as this.

Her brain was trying to process all this new information when she murmured in response, "Most, intriguing... a ChauKaaat you say?" She pronounced the name wrong, and stumbled on the word while trying to say it but, she continued to stare, Sigmund was absolutely smitten. Not in a romantic sort of way, but in a way a child would at looking through a store window at toys. She was about to comment further when the door to the tavern opened.

Sigmund watched the scene between the two, the woman with hooves and the man with orange hair with a tight frown upon her lips. She had no right to poke her nose into their business, this conformation was between them and them alone. It was the warriors way to fight one on one, she would not deny the man his chance to a fair fight. The supple red leather of her gloves creaked as she clenched her hands into fists when the woman began to bully Todd about. Despite her warriors code, it was also written that you saw not seek out one who was more vulnerable then yourself. Instead, choose someone in equal strength, wits, or even someone whom was stronger.

If she was still a soldier, it would have been easy to intervene, challenge the woman to a fight and see if she was worthy to fight beside Odin during the last battle at Ragnarok. By her actions though, Sigmund was doubting that Hofo would be a suitable candidate to send to Valhalla. Though she could not speak for her god Sigmund believed that Odin would not approve of receiving someone as haughty and as... dark as this woman.

When Hofo left her eyes turned to Todd, she narrowed her violet eyes looking at the man. Something flashed behind her glasses, for a moment it looked as if the coloring of her eyes lightened. It was a spell, to see if he was as evil as Hofo spoke. But the longer she stared to more certain she was that this man was not evil.

"She speaks the truth? That is quite hard to believe. If she were a true designator of the law, and you are as terrible as she says you are, she should have either locked you away or destroyed you on the spot. Not play this game of cat and house. Besides... I barely have much coin for anyone to steal, I will judge whom I will trust, and if you are to flank me, you must be prepared to die where you stand or you are suicidal." Sigmund of course meant to say 'mouse' but since she did not know what a mouse was, nor was she skilled at idioms she failed at the comparison. It still sounded harsh even though the last bit was comical, but Sigmund did not tolerate those who called themselves 'champions of good' and fell to the vices of man. It was one thing to have standards, to live by a code of honor, and be proud of your merits to an extent, that was something that all creatures should be granted. But pride... what a horrible sin to be enraptured in.

"Tis a disgrace for a so called warrior to do such a thing, to pick upon those who have been injured." Sigmund continued, she would perch herself on the stool beside Todd and lean close towards him. Since she was indeed very tall, her chest was practically knocking him in the face. She had to slump over so she was eye to eye with him. "Allow me to tend to your injuries, I am skilled and trained in the art of healing." She removed her gloves and rooted through her medical bag around her hip and pulled upon another pair of worn looking but very clean gloves. She held out her hand. "Do not deny yourself treatment if you feel ashamed... think of it as..." she paused for a moment, "Think of it as a boost upon your recovery in order to combat against that... oh what are those creatures called again? They have a name for what she is... hooves, standing up ears, and short tail... AH! AN ASS!"

She looked to Mack, waiting for Todd's response before saying anything further to him. "Ah do forgive me, what you consider is strong and what I consider is strong are two different things good sir." she laughed heartily, remembering the other Valkyries and their drinking habits while on leave or with the others of their kind. "I am not one to preen my feathers but, the daughters of Odin could drink even the most tolerant man under the table. But water please... I will provide the coin once I have finished my work here or when I take my leave."

To Catch a Fox Empty Re: To Catch a Fox

Post  DevilsChef Fri Jun 10, 2011 9:51 pm

((OOC Well last night i had like two pgs written up and a book randomly fell on my keyboard hitting backspace and deleting everything... i was so frustrated i just went to bed. -.-))

Xan smiled and thanked Mack as his food was set before him. Hew drank a gulp of his milk. Then he picked up his piece of toast and proceeded to smear jam over it then place some of his egg on top of that. With a grin he began to chow down.

Lyron greedily ran over to his meal and picked up his toast with a delighted squeek. As he munched on a corner of his toast he glanced around the bar. At the other end of the table he saw the most gorgeous rat he had ever seen in his life. He dropped his toast and started to run for the other side of thebar so he could introduce himself. As he was about halfway there the door to the bar swung open hard. Lyron froze mid step turned toward the door and as the stranger came in he ran back to Xan and resumed eating his toast. Needless to say Lyron is a bit of a scared rat. Which is not the best thing since Xan uses him to scout out unknown places. But he is a real good friend and close companion.

Xan turned from his food to look at the newcomer and noticed how tall and awkward she looked. She definately did not belong here and was new to the area. However, she had sort of an appeal to her. Xan still uninterested went back to his food. Perhaps after he was done he would walk over and introduce himself he thought. Only to be polite and possibly to get some new customers. He continued on his meal eager to finish and return to his work when all a sudden the door swung open harder then before. In walked a character that made Xan's blood boil each time he saw her. It was Hofo.

Lyron looked at Hofo and quick darted into his satchel. He knew she meant no good. As the happenings in the bar unfolded Xan felt his left hand clutch and glow with a hot flame as she toyed with Todd. Everyone who's anyone knows Todd is no good, but everyone also knows he doesn't deserve that. Hofo is just a bitch and someday she'll get what she deserves. But for now she goes around bullying everyone around her. As she left Xan stood up and made his way to Todd. "Are you alright man? She's a bitch and someday someone will make a statement of her. Perhaps a necromancer will disembowl her." He laughed at the thought, but his face quickly turned back to concern seeing Todd in pain.

As Hofo left, a sly character slide in after her. Quickly enough that the door didn't need to be opened again. She was as slender as an elf, but wore a black cloak to hide her features and a crimson outfit partially covered by her leather armor. She sat back in the corner table hidden by the shadows, yet slowly coming into view as the sun rose up.
